There have been three reports of a big cat in Ashland, Ky., since June 28.

Over the past couple weeks, officers have responded to Forest Avenue, Eloise Street and most recently Cheer Street.

Ashland Police say all three reports have come in neighborhoods near wooded areas.

The witnesses all have said the animal appears to resemble a mountain lion or cougar.

Officers recommend that residents not leave food out and keep extra watch on children and animals.

"It is very unusual to receive this amount of sightings in such a short amount of time so we are taking it very serious and take the necessary steps to alert everybody. If you can take pictures that would be very beneficial," said Mark McDowell of the Ashland Police Department.

McDowell says that he recommends that people should call 911 if they see it and not approach the animal.
