The identity of a man who drowned while swimming with friends Monday has been revealed.
Police say Evan Richard Ferguson was swimming with a group at Beech Fork Lake in Wayne County, when he went under water and didn't resurface.
A friend who was swimming with him, tried to save him but couldn't. That's when he called for help.
Ferguson was 21-years old.
UPDATE
Wayne County 911 dispatchers tell 13NEWS that the body of a man has been recovered from Beach Fork Lake.
According to police, the man drowned while attempting to swim across the lake.
There was no word on the identity of the victim.
ORIGINAL STORY
Rescue crews are on the scene of a possible drowning at Beech Fork Lake in Wayne County.
Emergency crews on the scene say a man was apparently swimming with a friend across the lake when he went under about 20 feet before reaching the other side.
His friend tried to save him and that's when they called for help.
Divers are combing the waters, but so far no body has been recovered.
The Lavalette Fire Department, state police and Wayne County Sheriff's Department are on the scene.
