Precautionary boil water advisory lifted for some customers

Posted: Updated:

West Virginia American Water has lifted a precautionary boil water advisory for all impacted customers in its Kanawha Valley system whose water service has been restored to date, according to a press release.

These customers are primarily in Kanawha, Boone and Putnam counties.

The release continued, "West Virginia American Water customers whose water service was fully restored as of July 9 are no longer under precautionary boil water advisory. The advisory issued by the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health on July 2 applied only to customers who experienced low water pressure or no water following widespread power outages.

A small number of customers in the upper elevations of the system whose water service has not yet been restored due to continued power outages will remain under the precautionary boil water advisory until further notice.

West Virginia American Water crews worked around the clock since last Friday night's storms to deploy emergency generators to dozens of remote sites including water storage tanks and booster stations that remained without power. Despite these best efforts to maintain full service throughout these systems, approximately 10 percent of customers experienced temporary outages or low water pressure at some point following the storms.

Water service is now functioning normally for more than 99.99 percent of customers in this system, and results of water quality testing have confirmed that water quality meets drinking water standards. Therefore, there is no further need for these customers to boil their water prior to consumption."
