Electricity is coming back on for many across West Virginia, but the state's National Guard are continuing recovery efforts for those still struggling.
In a press release, the National Guard says they have 700 airmen and soldiers spread out across the state. The guards focus is on delivery supplies, such as water and food.
The West Virginia National Guard is coordinating its efforts with county and state officials and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. So far, the Guard has delivered more than 2.5 million bottles of water, 343,000 bags of ice, 100 generators, 102,000 meals, 375 oxygen tanks and other missions.
"We continue to run 24-hour operations and will continue our efforts as long as the counties need us," said Maj. Gen. James A. Hoyer, West Virginia adjutant general. "As we tailor down our forces we will ensure we concentrate the proper resources for the missions that are required of us. We currently still have 80 Health and Wellness teams making daily trips into affected communities checking on residents and delivering much needed supplies."
