Though some families are struggling to buy food after past week's storms and outages, one area food bank is getting some extra help.
Mountaineer Food Bank received a $10,000 donation from Huntington Bank to help restock their shelves with food.
The food bank has feeding programs in 48 counties across West Virginia and they've all seen their food stockpiles reduced, as the need for food has grown after the storms.
"Our pantries are now at a critical level because so many families lost massive amounts of food spoiled during the power outages caused by the turbulent weather," said Carla Nardella, Executive Director at Mountaineer Food Bank. "We very much appreciate this donation from Huntington Bank because it will allow us to begin restoring the food supplies in the 600 plus feeding programs that so many of our residents depend on daily."
"Our bankers live, work and raise their families in West Virginia and we firmly believe we are stewards of the communities we serve," said Andrew Paterno, president for Huntington Bank in West Virginia. "This is our home and we take pride in doing the right thing and taking care of our own. Our Huntington Bank family sincerely hopes that other organizations in our state rally with donations to support the Mountaineer Food Bank during this difficult time."
