HUNTINGTON, West Virginia -

Emergency leaders are warning people about water safety after two drownings in the area in two days.

According to the Elliott County, Ky., Sheriff's Department, Brandon Bailey, 28, of Raceland, Ky., drowned in Grayson Lake after he fell from a 50-foot cliff and hit the rocks on the way down.

Investigators believe Bailey and other friends were jumping off cliffs in an area not marked for swimming when he slipped on the rocks.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Department says Evan Ferguson, 21, swam out of a roped off area at Beech Fork Lake at about 4 p.m. Monday and drowned.  His body was recovered just before 9 p.m.

Elliott County EMS said it responds to a tragic accident at Grayson Lake about every other year, and that generally it involves someone who is jumping or swimming in a restricted area, or a boat that isn't being operated properly.

EMS workers are reminding those on the water to stay within marked safe areas, avoid alcohol use and be aware of your surroundings if you decide to participate in activities in the areas lakes or rivers.
