After weeks of speculation, the Marshall's men's basketball team has confirmed will play the defending national champion Kentucky Wildcats on December 22, 2012 at Rupp Arena.
It will be the first meeting between the two programs since an
89-67 win by the Wildcats on Dec. 1, 2003 in Cincinnati.
It is the first
time the Herd will visit Rupp Arena since Nov. 16, 2001 when the
Wildcats won 90-73. UK leads the all-time series 11-0 including a 7-0
mark at home.
UK is coming off a 38-2 campaign in which the Wildcats defeated Kansas 67-59 in the national title game.
Marshall finished 21-14, but lost in the first round of the NIT to Middle Tennessee State last season.
It is the first time Marshall will play a defending national champion since 2009 (North Carolina).
