Storm victims still depending on Kanawha County cooling stations

Posted: Updated:

The remaining cooling stations set up across Kanawha County were busy on Tuesday night as residents continue to look for relief from the recent storms.

After the initial storm on June 29, many people showed up at the Kanawha City Recreation Center. Then a few days later a second round of storms caused a leak in the building. A number of those 38 people ended up moving to the King Center in downtown Charleston.

On Tuesday night, 16 people were using that shelter. Several of them are without homes. "It's frustrating, you know, when you're displaced and you don't know from one day to the next what's going to happen or where you're next meals are going to come from" said Bob Vanderslice from Fayette County.

The American Red Cross is looking for ways to help. Volunteers have come in from around the country to assist storm victims.
