New storm brings down trees and closes Route 34 in Putnam County

A slow moving thunderstorm moved through northern Putnam County Wednesday afternoon. It left a path of damage that included downed trees and power lines.

Route 34 was closed at the intersection to Heizer Creek Road on Wednesday evening, according to the West Virginia Division of Highways. A tree came down and brought power lines with it. The road reopened later Wednesday night.

Stormtracker 13 Chief Meteorologist Spencer Adkins said this storm was different than those the region has experienced in the past two weeks. "This was nothing like the previous several storms that we've seen. It didn't have the same kind of wind, just heavy rain downpours that stretched out over a longer period of time," said Adkins.
