Dog attack makes Huntington neighborhood uneasy

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia -

It's a typical summer night in Huntington as parents sit on the porch as the neighborhood kid's play.  However, a dog attack on 5th Avenue Wednesday afternoon is sending an uneasy feeling through a neighborhood.

"It scared me a lot because it could have been me, one of my sisters or my friends," said Nikita LeGrand, an 11-year old who lives a block away from the attack.

Police said a man was attacked and bitten by dogs on his hand and arm at the Firestone shop on 5th Avenue.

"We were out here playing with her and all of a sudden we heard this oh my god this dog attacked this guy," said Robin LeGrand, Nikita's mother.

Neighbors say about 5 big dogs run loose through the neighborhood on a regular basis, and because of that they live in fear

"We don't go for very far walks now at all because I'm afraid to because they could start chasing us.  I've got a bad back so it's going to be hard for me to run," said Debbie Carter who also lives a block away from the attack.

Police said when they arrived on the scene one of the dogs was dead.  The other was taken away by Animal Control who are investigating the incident

Investigators said the victim was taken to the hospital but suffered only minor injuries.
