One man was killed and another arrested in connection to a shooting in Rand early this morning.

William Cordle II, 21, of Rand, was shot in the chest at about 12:52 a.m. in the 5300 block of Elaine Drive, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Brent Burdette, 19, of Rand, was arrested later in the morning and charged in the case, the news release states. Burdette was arraigned on first-degree murder charges in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Cpl. B.E. Borchers arrived on the scene and found Cordle lying in the street with a chest wound. Cordle was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center where he died, according to the news release.

Investigators later determined that some kind of argument had taken place between Cordle and Burdette, which led to the shooting, the news release states. Burdette was later identified as the suspect in the shooting. He was found and arrested. The weapon believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.

Burdette was taken to the South Central Regional Jail.

Investigators removed a meth lab from the trailer where neighbors said Burdette had been staying. Police have not said, however, whether they believe the shooting is drug related.
