The effort to help feed people has extended into a local high school.
Cabell Midland High School now has a food and clothing pantry available on selected dates during the summer.
It is part of a program with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Huntington Area Food Bank.
The pantry includes nonperishable foods including canned fruits and vegetables.
It also contains clothing items such as jackets, shoes and even prom dresses.
During the summer, the pantry will be open to anyone, but once the school year starts it will be limited to just students.
"At the food bank we have heard stories from people losing their entire refrigerator after buying it using their last paycheck. Another paycheck will not come for another two weeks so food is a necessity right now," said Dana Holmstrand, Huntington Area Food Bank summer associate.
The pantry will next be open on July 26 from 12 to 4 p.m.
