Goodwin to honor hero police officer Friday

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin will deliver remarks and present an award at the statewide Prevention Resource Officer conference on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. 

The conference is being hosted by the West Virginia Division of Justice and Community Services.

Goodwin will present the United States Attorney's Award for Distinguished Service to Tom Speece, PRO at Ravenswood High School in Jackson County, West Virginia.

Earlier this year, Speece saved lives when he disrupted a student's plan to kill a hit list of fellow students at Ravenswood.
       
The Prevention Resource Officer Program is a cooperative effort between law enforcement and school systems.

The program places certified West Virginia police officers who are also certified Prevention Resource Officers in middle and high schools across the state.
