The Higher Learning Commission announced a decision this week to rescind Mountain State University's accreditation. It won't go into effect until Aug. 27, 2012.

The university has said it will appeal the decision and it has until July 27 to file that appeal.

Until that appeals process is finalized, MSU will retain its accreditation, but the situation is creating a lot of concern among current and former students.

Colleges and universities across West Virginia are offering to help to students. The University of Charleston is offering a scholarship to any MSU student who wants to transfer.

The school has set aside an unknown amount of financial aid to help. "We are happy to talk with an individual student and say this is what we are able to do financial to help you attend the university," said Edwin Welch, president of the University of Charleston.

Welch has said that credits from MSU will still be viable at UC.
