West Virginia organizations are combining efforts to help plan an inaugural event at the Boy Scouts of America new adventure center, according to Marisa B. Giller, a public affairs managing supervisor for Fleischman-Hillard.
"We are excited to welcome the Boy Scouts of America to West Virginia," said Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin. "Through coordinated training exercises involving the state and the Boy Scouts of America, we can ensure that these activities will operate safely and efficiently."
The planning session, which organizers consider a run-through, will take place Saturday, July 14 at the Glen Jean Armory in Oak Hill. It will focus on testing transportation and event activities.
The West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the state of West Virginia and the Boy Scouts of America are joining forces to plan for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree. The 2013 event will take place at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve.
The jamboree is expected to draw 30,000 scouts and 12,000 staff and leaders. So to organize the 10-day event, the state, the WVDHSEM, and the BSA are conducting a five-day event this month to figure logistics. Almost 2,200 scouts and staff will participate in this month's event.
