Back-to-back accidents plagued Kanawha County drivers on Friday.
"At one point, we had four accidents come in, in just about a minute in a half," said Lt. Sean Crosier, Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
There were at least 12 injury-related vehicle accidents that sent people to the hospital.
The recent dry spell is at the root of the problem.
Engine fumes and oils have baked on the roads the past two weeks.
Steady rain showers were the perfect recipe for disaster.
"With a light rain like this, it's going to just hit the road and massage the dirt as people drive over it. Its going to be like you just pledged the floor," said State Farm Agent Lisa Godwin.
Godwin said drivers should take some extra time getting to and from their destination.
If you get into an accident, she said the most important thing is to take pictures and document the incident.
"Look around to see if there's a witness that could have seen what happened because it's going to be your word against the other person's word. So, if you have a witness, that's gold," she said.
More rain is expected on Friday night. Authorities said some areas will have extra patrols on the road in case the weather poses a problem for drivers.
