The president and CEO of West Virginia Media, WOWK-TV's parent company, is thanking everyone who participated in this week's statewide food drive. The partnership with the Governor's Office began on Wednesday, July 11, at each West Virginia Media location across the state. The drive ended Friday evening.
During the three-day event, hundreds of people showed up with donations of non-perishable food items, bottled water, and monetary donations to help the Mountaineer Food Bank and the Huntington Area Food Bank.
"We were excited that all of our West Virginia Media stations worked to collect food," said Bray Cary, the president and CEO of West Virginia Media. "Once again, it shows the generosity and that ‘never say die' attitude of the people of West Virginia."
Cary went on to say, "one of the unusual things about this donation... is the amount of cash given by people. The money can go to very specific causes to help the people that need it the most."
If you didn't have a chance to donate, you can always stop by your local food pantry and make a donation there.
