Marshall to receive federal funds for cancer research

Sens. Jay Rockefeller, Joe Manchin, and Rep. Nick Rahall announced $426,000 in federal funds for Marshall University from the National cancer Institute's Academic research Enhancement Awards (AREA).

"Marshall University is conducting important cancer research that holds incredible promise and this funding will help make sure that research goes uninterrupted. being awarded this competitive grant is a testament to the dedication and hard work of Marshall's faculty and students.' Rockefeller said.

"Investing in research opportunities in our state is just one way we can move West Virginia forward. High-quality education and research is such important way to ensure that west Virginia attracts the best and brightest. An investment like this one speaks to the excellence of Marshall University and our great state," Senator Manchin said.

"Marshall's roots as a teaching academy continues to strengthen research achievements," Rahall. "These funds help capture the budding interest of undergrads, and growing their interest in the science remains a national priority."
