UPDATE

Ashland Police say they have received another unconfirmed report of a sighting of a large cat and two kittens near Hilton Ave. in Ashland today.

A woman said she saw the cat and two kittens trailing behind it.

This makes the 5th unconfirmed sighting.

Ashland police are investigating what they are considering to be a confirmed bobcat sighting in the Midland Heights area.

"I'm a hunter, and I've seen them, and this one was kind of healthy for a bobcat," said Mark Conley, who lives on Edgewood Avenue.

Conley tells 13 News, "I go down and look off of our back balcony from our bedroom and see a bobcat running through the yard, after I holler for my dog."

Conley reported the sighting to police around 7:00 on Saturday morning.

Between June 28 and July 6, three big cat sightings were reported.  These people told police they saw a mountain lion or cougar.

"There was a dead doe that has just been mutilated by the area where the bobcat had run from.  If it can take down a deer like this and we've got eight year olds up to thirteen year olds, then it can take down a child like that," says Conley.

Nan O'Hara of Ashland tells 13 News, "Every neighbor is frightened for the children; they're frightened for their animals.  It's very disturbing to everyone here, you're not safe."

Police tell us bobcats usually come out at night.  They say to keep pets and children inside as much as possible during night-time hours.  They advise against leaving food outside.
