Thief steals $2,000 from Sissonville VFD

One thief is playing with fire and a local volunteer fire department isn't happy about it.

Someone stole a $2,000 utility trailer used in the recent storm outage from the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department.

It happened early Saturday morning.

"It's a 16 foot black trailer with a tailgate ramp. It has a spare tire mounted on the passenger side of the trailer," said member Thomas Miller.

This is the second time in a year that someone has stolen equipment from the VFD.

The firefighters are frustrated this happened again.

"It's heartbreaking. He didn't steal from the fire department. He stole from the community. These trucks don't belong to me. They don't belong to the fire department. They belong to our community," Miller said.

A surveillance camera caught the thief in action, but so far, no leads.

"We saw on the surveillance camera that it appeared to be a male with a light colored pick-up truck, backed up to the trailer, hooked up to the trailer, left the lock, and turned West on Edens Fork Road toward Route 21," Miller said.

Fire officials aren't sure how they'll replace the trailer if nobody speaks up.
