One person was reported struck by a train Monday afternoon in Marmet; the person was killed immediately, according to authorities. The fatality is among two others that happened this year.
In April, 31-year-old Ezra Shawn Mullins from Charleston was hit by a CSX train, after walking on the tracks. He was dragged for a half mile, before the train came to a stop. Police investigated whether Mullins was wearing ear buds at the time.
Authorities also looked into whether ear buds played a role in a train accident that killed a Hurricane High School student. In January, 16 year-old Jacob Ball was walked on tracks to get home from school in Putnam County. The community came together, holding events to support Ball's family.
