The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is awarding grants to help reduce litter.

According to the West Virginia DEP, grants totaling more than $60,520 have been approved. The agency will distribute the funds to 26 applicants, which include solid waste authorities, county commissions, and municipalities.

The litter control programs will help fund the "razing" of derelict buildings in Hurricane, McMechen, and Milton, as well as start cleanups in Kanawha, Putnam, Mercer, and Mason counties. The funds will provide for recycling bins, trash cans, and other supplies in these target communities.
