Putnam County homeowner speaks out about fire

Posted: Updated:

The state fire marshal's office is still investigating a fire in Putnam County.

Firefighters were called to fight a fire in Teays Valley early Monday morning. The fire was originally reported as a rekindle of the original fire, but fire officials have ruled it suspicious because they say there were no "hot spots" remaining on Sunday night.

The homeowner, Joe Matusic, said on Tuesday night that he's concerned about the rumors regarding the cause of the fire. He's also upset at what happened to his neighbors when they came to help his family.

Matusic, a local physician, was out of town when the original fire and the second blaze occurred. When they returned home, Matusic said that his neighbors came over to offer support and comfort with a prayer circle. But as they were gathered, he said someone ransacked their home. "It really bothers me that someone would steal from my neighbors. I'll be okay. I have insurance and I'll move on, but it really upsets me that someone would do this to my neighbors as they were comforting me," said Matusic.
