Kanawha County officials have their calculators out. They're still totaling up the costs of the recent storm. The county estimates the cost at $2 million. This cost includes response from fire, police, emergency management services and property damage.
Dale Petry is the director of Kanawha County Homeland security and Emergency Management. He said it's met the threshold for federal assistance... and has applied with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). "We are still trying to gather our numbers. We have had meetings with FEMA. We just meetings with the different organizations like police, fire and EMS. We have had our planning department out checking our infrastructure," said Petry.
FEMA is out in the county surveying residential property that has been damaged by the storm. The work and final figures from the storm could be weeks away.
