Logan County awarded $6 million construction contract for flood prevention

The Island Creek Local Protection Project in Logan County includes widening the Island Creek channel to allow flood protection for 252 homes and businesses. West Virginia Congressman Nick Rahall (D) announced in a press release that a six million dollar construction contract has been awarded to the project.

The widening of the Island Creek channel will provide the area with a 10 year and 20 year frequency flood protection. The funding will allow widening of Island Creek from the former Super 8 site to the Logan Napa Store on the left bank of the creek.

Rahall has been working on this initiative with the late Senator Robert Byrd. The two secured $4.4 million in federal funding for the project.

In total, the project is estimated to cost approximately $40 million and will take about four years to finish.
