Senators Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin announced federal funding for two West Virginia airports. The money will go towards important upgrades, improved access, and increased safety at the airports.

"Keeping our airports and transportation infrastructure up-to-date is so important because they remain a critical link in our state for business, tourism and West Virginia's economy," Rockefeller said. "These grants will help make sure the people of West Virginia and others are safe and have proper facilities when traveling."

The Wood County Airport Authority was awarded $150,000. This money will be used to rehabilitate the existing runaway pavement.

The Greenbrier County Airport Authority was awarded $1 million. This money will be used to upgrade public use areas and provide for enhanced handicap accessibility to public entry ways.

"It is so important that West Virginia has the funding it needs to make critical improvements to our infrastructure, which are important for the safety of our residents and for economic development," Senator Manchin said. "Investing in our infrastructure, whether that is through improving our airport runways or fixing up buildings in need of repair, is one of the best ways we can create jobs and make West Virginia a more attractive place to live and do business. It just makes good common sense."
