The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board has awarded $47,500 to multiple counties for 'Farms to Food Banks' initiatives, according to a news release.
Allen County received $5,000. Casey County received $2,500. Jessamine County received $10,000. Garrard County received $10,000. Shelty County received $20,000.
"I am committed to creating opportunities that will make Kentucky's agricultural community stronger," Governor Steve Beshear said in a news release. "Projects such as this one funded by the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, not only provide an additional market for farm products, but also provide an important service to Kentuckians in need," he continued.
The Farms to Food Banks initiative provides fresh, healthy produce to residents in need.
