The Environmental Protection Agency is taking a closer look at pollution limits at new power plants.
The type of review, called a "reconsideration" comes after new information came forward from "industry stakeholders."
The regulations, under the Mercury and Air Toxins Standards, will not have an impact on existing power plants, according to a news release. The rules limit the amount of mercury and toxins that a power plant can release.
"The agency's decision to reconsider the standards for new sources reflects its ongoing commitment to work with industry and other stakeholders to ensure that all of EPA's standards protect public health while being achievable and cost-effective," read the news release Friday.
A decision on whether or not the EPA rules will be changed is expected in 2013.
