The Kentucky Division of Water is asking owners and users of private drinking water wells across the state to collect groundwater samples, according to a press release from the Kentucky Governor's Office of Agricultural Policy.
Their project belongs to a study that will determine if water wells in the United States are being affected by human pollution and/or events of nature.
Well owners who are selected will receive a free testing of their water. The samples will be tested for E. Coli and total coliform bacteria that live in untreated human and animal waste. The water will also be tested for caffeine, slim-forming bacteria, iron-related bacteria, and sulfate-reducing bacteria.
Anyone who would like to take part in the study should call Susan Mallette with the Division of Water at 502-564-3410 or by email at Susan.Mallette@ky.gov.
