The bridge on 29th Street near 8th Avenue in Huntington was dedicated Saturday. It was named in honor of Private First Class Herbert Burgess Murphy.
Murphy was born and raised in Huntington and served in the Marine Corps. He died in 1969, while on road security in Vietnam.
Five people that served with Murphy in Vietnam were in attendance. Murphy's three brothers were presented with a replica of the bridge sign, during the ceremony.
"We always want to recognize our veterans and he gave his life for our freedom," said Ron Wroblewski of Vietnam Veterans of America.
Wroblewski said a childhood friend and veteran, Danny Casey, was instrumental in the idea of honoring Murphy.
