Lincoln County Commissioner Thomas Ramey Jr., sent a letter of resignation Monday.

Ramey, 32, is scheduled to plead guilty to federal fraud charges at a hearing scheduled for Aug. 8.

Federal investigators said Ramey was present while absentee ballots were altered, despite telling them he had no knowledge of the changes.

Ramey has been charged with making false statements to investigators, officials said.

The remaining two commission members are scheduled to accept the letter of resignation at a meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
