Parents protest proposed cuts to WV DHHR program for child care assistance

Posted: Updated:

Budget cuts are on the way for one West Virginia agency and parents are upset.

During a rally Monday, across from the state capitol in Charleston, a small group gathered to protest a decision by the Department of Health and Human Resources to cut funding for child care assistance.

On August 1, the state will freeze enrollment and stop payments for families who are at or above 150 percent of the federal poverty level. A parent among the protestors said if the cuts take place it will create problems in the future. Another rally is planned for child care providers who are also protesting the budget cuts. That rally also takes place on the state capitol grounds.
