One West Virginia county is trying to invite their school dropouts back to class.
Cabell County Schools is part of the national Communities In Schools network, which encourages any person who dropped out without getting a high school diploma to come back.
"By meeting with the each person and determining what goals they have and what their academic needs are, a plan can be developed by the student and counselor to reach the goal," said Ellenda Ward, Executive Director of Cabell County's Communities In Schools program in a press release.
"Once they see what is needed to attain their particular goal, they may have several options for doing so," she said. "Last year several community members served as encouragers to the returning students by meeting with them periodically, discussing their needs and encouraging them to keep working toward their goal."
The Cabell County Board of Education is holding a dropout reentry meeting at their offices on 29th St. on Aug. 3 from 2-4 p.m.
Those wanting to come are being encouraged to pre-register by calling 304-528-5206 or 304- 528-5207.
According to the West Virginia Dept. of Education, 127 of Cabell County's 5,256 students dropped out during the 2010-2011 school year.
