C8 Science Panel to release new reports July 30

Posted: Updated:

The C8 Science Panel will file new reports July 30 detailing whether there is a probable link between C8 exposure and disease.

Following the filing, C8 Science panel members will host a press conference in Parkersburg at the Wingate Hotel.

The reports stem from a 2005 settlement approved in a class action lawsuit involving the release of the chemical perfluorooctanoic acid from DuPont's Washington Works. The settlement created the panel, which is composed of three scientists from London, Atlanta and Providence, R.I., to study the effects of C8.

A document posted in June on the C8 Science Panel's website stated panel members planned to file seven reports in Wood County Circuit Court July 30.

The reports listed were asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, stroke, infectious diseases, thyroid disease, auto-immune disease, lupus, Type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis and neurological development in children.

The document requested an additional three months, "possibly less" to complete the final series of reports. Those reports would cover liver disease, kidney disease, osteoarthritis, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, hypercholesterolemia and hypertension.
