The Higher Learning Commission has extended the accreditation of Mountain State Universitythrough Dec. 31.
A school spokesman said that means all of its physician assistant students will be included in its teach-out plan, "even those students who have more than one year to go in order to graduate."
"This will allow us to help more students to graduate during that period of time," MSU spokesman Andy Wessels said of the accreditation extension.
Wessels said officials will file the teach-out plan this week, but it will not be made public until it is approved by the Higher Learning Commission.
"We are contacting other universities on the students' behalf, providing letters of recommendation and other assistance as requested," Wessels said.
"We are working diligently to find another institution to sponsor or take over the physician assistant program. Any such arrangement would be subject to approval by the HLC and the (Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant Inc.)," Wessels said.
