Food entrepreneurs asked to participate in the WV Recipe Challenge

Posted: Updated:

The State Fair of West Virginia will host the Seventh Annual West Virginia Recipe Challenge on Aug. 12.

The event is meant to encourage potential food entrepreneurs from across the state to compete for $10,000 in goods and services. Also, they will have the chance to offer their specialty food product in a market place, according to a news release.

The competition began in 2006 by the West Virginia State University Extension Service to help expose emerging entrepreneurs who want to showcase their home-cooked product in grocery stores.

The challenge will have two categories that include a new entrepreneur and an existing business. The categories for prizes will include recipe refinement, packaging design, label development, nutritional panel creation, technical assistance, production time in the kitchen, product marketing, and more.
