Three escape massive fire in a home on Walnut Street in Kanawha County
The Ohio State Fire Marshal investigators said that a working smoke alarm saved the lives of one family in Jackson County.
It happened at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when a family of four was asleep in their beds, according to a news release from the State Fire Marshal. The 11-year-old daughter in the family woke up to the smoke alarm sounding and ran to get her parents and 8-year-old brother out of bed. Everyone and the family dog was able to escape through a bedroom window and called 911 at a neighbor's house.
The father said that smoke was coming out of the windows shortly before they escaped. Investigators believe they would not have been able to escape if they stayed another one or two minutes because of the smoke and hot gasses.
The home was a complete loss with fire and smoke damage throughout.
The investigation was conducted by the Division of State Fire Marshal and the Coalton Volunteer Fire Department.
