Seniors learn about utility rates

Posted: Updated:

AARP West Virginia and the local Huntington chapter of AARP hosted a community conversation Thursday.

The focus of the event was seniors and rising utility rates.

The AARP updated residents on pending West Virginia utility rate cases that could have an impact on their bills.

It was also designed to let people know how they can make their voice heard in the rate making process.

Participants could also find about possible assistance they could be eligible for.

"My electric bill almost doubled and when I went to get my medicine it went up. I don't know how I will pay my next electric and medicine bill off," said Naomia Turner, Barboursville.

About 100 people turned out for the meeting.
