The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety honored 126 law enforcement officers from agencies across Kentucky to encourage the use of seat belts and child restraints on Thursday.
Trooper Daniel A. Armstrong from Post 8 of Morehead received a Governor's Occupant Protection Enforcement Award, according to a press release. Awards were presented to the officers with the most occupant protection citations in each agency and division in Kentucky.
The second annual Governor's Occupant Protection Awards ceremony was held in Lexington.
In 2011, there were 576 total deaths in motor vehicles in Kentucky. Of those deaths, 58 percent were not wearing a seat belt.
