Emergency responders from 15 agencies take part in disaster drill

Emergency crews from Cabell and Wayne counties practiced their response in a worst-case-scenario during a disaster drill.

Saturday morning, 15 agencies gathered at Huntington High school during a scenario where there was four different shooters and a chemical spill.

"It's a really good opportunity to take the training and skills that we have individually as different agencies and learn from each other," said Capt. Jan Radar, with the Huntington Fire Department.

It gives different departments an opportunity to work together and learn what works best.

"In any incident you have, there will be errors and things that are working and things that are not working. We can find those things that aren't working and fix that," said Elisabeth Ayers with the Community Emergency Response Team.

Many emergency responders felt the training, while it can only prepare for an actual disaster to a certain extent, went well among all the agencies.

"You are working with professionals. We know what our role is and they know what their role is and we worked together really well,"said Sgt. Ernest Blackburn with the Huntington Police Department.
