In a move designed to improve efficiency, AEP Ohio has started a program to install automated meters in its service territory.
Meters will be replaced between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to information from the company.
AEP Ohio officials expect to install about 204,000 automated meter reading meters, according to the company. The new meters reduce the need to estimate meter readings during bad weather.
Meter reader personnel will be able to drive by customers' homes to collect data from the new meters, according to the company. The meters have digital displays, which allow customers to monitor their electricity usage.
The new meters also will mean more accurate billing, AEP Ohio officials said.
