American Red Cross in 15 year blood donation low

Posted:

The June 29 Derecho put the pinch on the state's blood supply.

The American Red Cross is facing a critical loss in blood donations this summer and are asking for help.

According to the Red Cross, donations are the lowest they have been in 15 years.

And they say there are a few factors contributing to that:

First, we had an early spring, which got people busy outside and donating was a priority. Then the heat wave came, which forced people inside. The severe weather we saw at the end of June resulted in power outages for many across West Virginia. They also say that during the summer months they lose their High school and college donors.
