Three escape massive fire in a home on Walnut Street in Kanawha County
A coal miner died on the job in Fayette County Tuesday,
according to the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration.
Gregory A. Byers, 43, of Beckley,
was killed early Tuesday afternoon at a mine near Eccles, according to MSHA.
"The miner was near a scoop at the battery charging station,
when a second scoop struck the scoop beside the miner, causing it to slide against
the miner, injuring him," according to an MSHA statement. "The injured miner
was transferred from the mine to hospital via ambulance, where he died early
Tuesday evening."
An investigation into the incident is under way, according
to the statement.
This is the fourth mining fatality in West
Virginia in 2012, according to MSHA.
