Repair work on Interstate 64 along the Putnam-Kanawha county line snarled traffic traveling east on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Construction crews were working on the stretch of road near the St. Albans exit and across the bridge that spans the Kanawha River. Traffic backed up for miles toward Hurricane through the middle and late afternoon both days.
For drivers who tried to avoid the interstate congestion and took a detour through St. Albans, repair work on state Route 817 also created major backups going into town.
Dispatchers reported a few minor accidents as result of the congestion. Motorists are asked to be cautious in work zones and plan ahead for delays.
