Drought conditions could drive up price of regional produce

Corn crops across the country have taken a blow because of the dry weather.

Farmers in the Kanawha Valley are also struggling with some of their crops.

"It has on certain produce it did with the beans they got a little sparse, but now they are starting to come in. Squash took a little toll where it got dry and hot, but it is starting to come back around, so we are looking for a good year to wrap up," said Tony Richards, manager at Capitol Market in Charleston.

There are plenty of local farmers who are selling corn and other produce at Capitol Market at regular prices. Richards said the higher prices on out-of-state produce will probably come later in the season.
