A man convicted of kidnapping an elderly man, who later passed away, was sentenced on Thursday.

Gary Mullins will spend 25 years behind bars for kidnapping George Jacobs, 84, and taking money from him.

Jacobs testified about the ordeal at Mullins trial earlier this year.

He died the next day.

Jacobs family believes the defendant's actions contributed to their father's death.

Multiple family members gave statements before Mullins was sentenced

"He gave the ultimate sacrifice to make sure this guy gets put away. I want to say I'm extremely pleased with the sentence. I think it's a good sentence. I support the sentence and incarceration for 25 years," said Pat Jacobs, the victim's son.

He said his father was a very brave and amazing man.

Mullins also spoke before he was sentenced. He maintains his innocence and said he will appeal.
