Ohio State Patrol offers school bus safety tips

Posted: Updated:

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is offering tips on school bus safety as children head back to school.

  • Motorists approaching a school bus are required to stop at least 10 feet back from buses that display red flashing lights and an extended stop arm.
  • Children should always look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Motorists should allow for extra time to get to their destination and be patient during school bus stops.
  • Drivers should watch out for children when backing out of driveways or garages.

Across Ohio, 23 teams of motor vehicle inspectors of the Ohio State Highway Patrol inspect all Ohio school buses, at least twice a year.
