A Kanawha County man managed to outrun police, but he was no match for man's best friend.
Timothy Boling ended up in handcuffs after the ordeal was over with.
Police responded to an accident on spring in Nitro. Witnesses said a car went through a guardrail. Police said that same care had been reported as stolen from Saint Albans.
The driver of the car, Tony Boling, was no where to be found.
Police called in Officer Timothy Jarrell and his canine partner, Bullet.
Bullet is a 6-year-old veteran of the police department. He's a German Shepherd and Belgium Malinois mix.
Bullet was able to track Boling down by the River Bank.
Jarrell said he gave Boling multiple chances to come forward without incident.
When Boling refused, Bullet went after him.
"After we gave him numerous commands to give himself up, he was caught and there was no where he could go, unless he attempted to swim the river. There was no where he could go at that point. He chose not to listen, so Bullet went down and apprehended him for us," he said.
Jarrell said Bullet is a tremendous asset to the police department.
He's also given new meaning to the phrase, 'man's best friend'.
"He puts up with me and I put up with him. We do pretty good and I wouldn't trade him for anything," he said.
Bullet is near the end of his police dog career. When the department retires him, Jarrell said he is going to keep him.
Meanwhile, Boling has been charged with receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle.
He's in the South Central Regional Jail with bail set at $10,000.
