WV State Police confiscate marijuana plants in Kanawha County

Posted: Updated:

A pretty significant find on Friday by the West Virginia State Police.

Troopers said they were performing aerial surveillance when they came across 1,700 marijuana plants. Each plant is estimated to be worth about $2,500. That's equals more than $4 million in plants, according to troopers.

Officials said no arrests have been made, yet. "I don't know if you are ever going to totally eradicate or totally defeat it or anything like that, but what you do is you basically disrupt the flow and you decrease the amount of drug availability that's out there," said Sgt. Michael Smith with the West Virginia State Police.

Sgt Smith said prescription drug abuse continues to be the biggest problem in West Virginia.
