About 275 competitors took part in the annual St. Mary's Medical Center Triathlon Sunday in Huntington.
The event featured a half-mile swim in the Ohio River, 15-mile bike ride, and 5K run.
Athletes were divided into various age groups and categories.
In addition to the triathlon, there was also a triathlon relay and duathlon in which the athletes have a run, bike ride and another run.
Organizers say the course is a good test for all involved.
"It really encompasses the entire body and it is mental because you have to pace yourself. At the same time to finish well, you have to maintain a steady pace. It can be very grueling," said Jim Duke, race director.
In the past the event has taken place at Beech Fork State Park.
Organizers say they hope to keep it in downtown Huntington in the future.
